Trello Integration

Use Trello integration to let Dawn discover boards and treat cards as issue-style work items in agent workflows.

Before you start

• A Trello account with access to the boards Dawn should use.
• A Trello API key created from Trello’s Power-Up or app admin area.
• A Trello user token for the same account.

Trello is different from Jira and Bitbucket. For Trello, Dawn uses a Trello API key plus token, and Trello now exposes API key management from the Power-Up or app admin area, not from a separate standalone API key page.

Create the API key and token

1. Sign in to Trello and open trello.com/power-ups/admin.
2. Create a new Power-Up or app if you do not already have one. You do not need to publish it publicly just to use it with Dawn.
3. Open that Power-Up or app and go to its API Key tab.
4. Click Generate a new API Key and copy the key.
5. On the same API key page, open the token link for that key.
6. Approve access for the same Trello account and copy the generated token.
7. Keep both values safe. Dawn needs the API key and the token from the same Trello account.

Connect Trello in Dawn

1. Open Integrations in Dawn and click Add connection.
2. Choose Trello.
3. Enter the API key.
4. Enter the token.
5. Click Connect.
6. Review the discovered boards and link the ones you want available in the workspace.
7. Assign those linked sources to the agents that should use them.

What Dawn discovers

Dawn discovers open boards visible to the token. Each linked board becomes one issue-style source in Dawn, with cards surfaced as work items and card comments available through the issue comment tools.

What agents can do with Trello now

• List recent cards from a board.
• See the board’s available lists or columns, such as To Do, In Progress, and Done, through card search results.
• Filter cards by list name as well as by card title.
• Read a specific card and its comments.
• Work with archived Trello cards through the closed-card path.

Troubleshooting

• Cannot find the API key page: go to the Trello Power-Up or app admin area first. Trello no longer surfaces this as a separate general API key page.
• Connection fails: confirm the API key and token both belong to the same Trello account and are still active.
• No boards appear: the token account likely cannot see the target board, or the board is closed.
• Cards are missing: confirm you linked the correct board source and assigned it to the agent you are using.
• Need cards in a specific status lane: ask for the Trello list name directly, such as cards in To Do or cards in Done.
