Dropbox Integration
Use Dropbox integration to let Dawn discover folders, browse their contents, read files, and search within the boundaries you link.
Dropbox can be connected two ways. A workspace owner or manager can connect it as a shared source from the workspace Integrations screen and assign the linked folders to specific agents. An individual user can also connect their own Dropbox as a personal connection under account settings → My connections, where it stays scoped to that user. Use the workspace path for folders the whole team should reach, and the personal path for your own files.
Before you start
- A Dropbox account with access to the folders Dawn should use.
- For a workspace connection, the Manager role, which is required to create it.
- For a team agent, prefer a shared or service Dropbox account rather than a personal login, because the connection acts as the workspace’s view into Dropbox.
Dropbox connects through Dropbox sign-in with read-only scopes. A manual access token is also accepted in the credential field, which is mainly useful for testing because manual tokens expire and need to be replaced.
Connecting Dropbox
- Shared workspace source: open the workspace Integrations screen, add a Dropbox connection, and click Connect Dropbox to complete Dropbox sign-in. Then choose what to link and assign the linked sources to the agents that should use them.
- Personal connection: open account settings → My connections, add Dropbox, and complete Dropbox sign-in.
Choosing what to link
Dawn discovers All files/folders plus the top-level folders visible to the connected account, including mounted shared folders. Each selection becomes one source in Dawn.
Linking All files/folders gives assigned agents access to everything the connected account can see, so the option is called out separately during setup. For a narrower boundary, link only the specific root folders agents should use. Agents stay inside the linked folder: every browse, read, and search is scoped to it.
What agents can do
Agents with an assigned Dropbox source can browse folder trees, read text files, and open binary files such as PDFs, Office documents, images, and archives through Dawn’s document tools. They can also search files under the linked folder using Dropbox search, so coverage and snippets depend on Dropbox’s own indexing.
The integration is read-only. Agents cannot create, update, move, delete, or share Dropbox files, and Dawn does not create shared links. Dropbox Paper documents are not supported. Dawn reads files at request time and does not sync or store their contents.
Connected as a personal connection, Dropbox provides the same read-only browse, search, and read capabilities, scoped to the user who connected it and available in their conversations and explicitly delegated runs.
Troubleshooting
- Sign-in fails or is cancelled: start the connection again and approve the Dropbox permissions Dawn requests.
- Invalid token: a manual access token is expired, revoked, or copied incorrectly. Reconnect with Dropbox sign-in or paste a fresh token.
- No folders appear: link All files/folders if the account has no top-level folders, or confirm the signed-in Dropbox account can see the expected folders.
- Search misses a recent file: Dropbox indexes content on its side, so very recent files can lag. Browsing the folder directly is the reliable fallback.
- A very large file fails to open: Dawn enforces file size limits when reading provider files.
