Workspace Access
Workspaces in Dawn are not just containers for agents and sources. They also define who can operate the workspace, who can simply use it, and how linked external identities should be treated when someone comes in from Slack, Teams, Telegram, or Discord.
Roles you can assign
Owner
Owns the workspace. Owners can manage access, configure workspace-level apps, update settings, and handle billing-sensitive operations.
Manager
Handles day-to-day operation of the workspace. Managers can configure and use the workspace, but they are not the billing or membership owner.
Teammate
Uses Dawn in the workspace without taking over configuration or ownership tasks. This is the right role for most end users.
Invitations and member management
- Open Workspace settings.
- Go to the Access tab.
- Invite a person by email and choose Teammate or Manager.
- Review pending invitations in the same dialog. You can resend or revoke them there.
- Review current members and update a member role when needed.
This is the same dialog that shows current members, pending invites, and delivery issues if Dawn created an invitation but could not send the email immediately.
Linking an external identity
Linking is how Dawn recognizes that the person talking to the bot in a private external chat is the same person who signs in to Dawn Web.
- Start from a private Slack DM, Telegram private chat, Teams personal chat, or Discord DM with Dawn.
- Type
/link [email protected]. - Dawn sends a verification email and replies in the DM with a short confirmation code.
- Open the link from the email, sign in to Dawn, and enter the same code in the confirmation page.
- Use
/link statuslater if you need to check whether that channel identity is already linked.
After the link is confirmed, Dawn can recognize you more consistently across that private channel identity and Dawn Web. The goal is not to merge every conversation into one feed. The goal is that the product knows it is the same person.
Auto-join linked identities
In Workspace settings → Settings, owners can enable Auto-join linked identities.
- When disabled, a successful external identity link improves recognition only. It does not silently add the person to the workspace.
- When enabled, a successful confirmed link can add that signed-in Dawn user to the workspace as a teammate.
- This is a workspace policy, not a global account setting.
- It should stay off unless you intentionally want a linked private-channel user to get teammate access automatically.
Validation checklist
- Owners can open workspace settings and see both Settings and Access.
- Invitations can be created, listed, resent, and revoked without leaving the dialog.
- Managers and teammates show the intended role after refresh.
- A linked private external identity is recognized correctly after confirmation.
- Auto-join behavior matches the workspace setting: off means recognition only, on means teammate auto-provisioning is allowed.
Validation Prompts
Use these prompts in Dawn chat to quickly validate this setup area.
List current workspace members, roles, and any pending invitations.
Check whether linked-identity auto-join is enabled and explain the practical effect for this workspace.
Completion Checklist
- Workspace roles are understood by the team.
- Invitations and member list reflect the intended access.
- Linked-identity flow tested in a private channel when needed.
- Auto-join policy reviewed intentionally.
